Kris Delmhorst
Strange Conversation
Signature Sounds recordings

Singer/songwriter Kris Delmhorst's honey-coated voice has the lilt of Maria Muldour combined with the edge of Elizabeth Cotton. Her original songs on Strange Conversation all use lyrics lifted from dead poets, including Lord Byron, Robert Browning, Walt Whitman, Virgil, E.E. Cummings, Edna Vincent Millay, John Masefield, and others. Instead of being dull academic exercises these tunes feel as vibrant as any extemporaneous contemporary composition. Some of the tunes, such as “Light of the Light” have a bubbly pop feeling, while others like the title cut, are jazz inflected with a bluesy languor. Kris Delmhorst's refreshingly adult folk music proves that defunct poets have much to offer, even in the 21st century.
